Executive President of the Trinidad and Tobago Copyright Collection Organisation (TTCCO), Asten Isaac, has offered strong support for the Ministry of Culture’s recent request for fresh nominations to the National Carnival Commission (NCC) Board.

The directive, which has sparked public discussion following statements by the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) and reports of possible legal action, invites all major cultural organisations—TUCO, Pan Trinbago, and the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Bands Association (TTCBA)—to submit new nominees for the reconstitution of the NCC Board.

Isaac acknowledged the concerns raised, but emphasised that the process is supported by the NCC Act, specifically Sections 5(1)(a), (b), and (c), which entitle the three major organisations to nominate board representatives. He also referenced Section 5(1)(d), allowing discretionary appointments by the Minister, and Section 5(3), which enables the Minister to set regulations for the nomination process in alignment with the Act’s objectives.

“The Minister’s directive encourages organisations to reflect internally and identify individuals who can bring renewed energy and ideas to the NCC,” Isaac stated.

He stressed that this call for new nominations should not be seen as a dismissal of previous representatives, but rather as a proactive step toward strengthening the Commission’s governance and adaptability.

The TTCCO supports the Ministry’s approach and encourages ongoing dialogue among all stakeholders. Isaac concluded by reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to collaboration, transparency, and the sustainable development of Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural sector.
